Geography: United States Landmarks Matching Activity

I always liked it best when students were the ones doing the talking about a topic. Activities like these are perfect because students are working together toward a common goal, and collaborating with each other to get there. Maybe they get some right, maybe they don’t, but that isn’t the point of these activities. It’s about getting them talking, thinking, and organizing in a way that works for them.

This activity also gave me a chance to pop in to each group and ask them about their group’s thought process. I’d give fun little hints like, “You can do what you want as your group, but if I were you, I’d definitely put Mount Rushmore in South Dakota!” (Enter the quick change of cards!! )

These also come as interactive bulletin boards, too!

What worked best for me was to keep the cutouts in Ziploc bags so that I could just pull them out year after year and save a ton of time!

I have always enjoyed tricking students into talking about history, and this American History Time Line activity does just that! Jenny, @MsKressHistory, is a teacher from Iowa who shows her students using this resource every year on her IG page. Plus, her classroom is one of the most unique classrooms I've ever seen!

With this resource, just print, cut, and organize your groups - your students will take care of the rest! If you're more of a digital person, this resource also comes as a Google Drive option. Click HERE to grab it!

One of my favorite parts of using this activity is it allows you to see how students work together, who takes a leadership role, who cooperates, and how your students organize information.
